My Aquarium

not much to say here, it's mostly in the pictures ;-) so go have a look and be sure to click on the pictures becuase it will take you to more pics of the subject and larger pics too.

I had hoped to do this page with only pictures I had taken myself. but some fish are being quite unco-operative! I will still try to get pictures, but I'll borrow placeholder images in the meantime. the borrowed images will have a name on them crediting the original photographer, uncredited pics are mine. I'll try to replace the placeholders if at all possible, even if the pic isn't as nice.

Update! (June 2002) because i am across the country, I naturally have not really been updating the pages ince i was not even there, aside from Christmas (when i did manage to raise a batch of lovely angel fish fry) tho i do dearly love my tank. the tank is now in posession of my sister and her boyfriend Steve, i am no longer caring for it. it is theirs to do with as they wish. they do however send me occasional pictures! so i will post those since i will not have a terribly permanent residence over the next few years due to college so will not have a tank of my own to fill this space.

fish:
2 Angel Fish (Pterophyllum scalare)
a mating pair of angels, a koi and a marble. we used to have a third, but gave it away because these two were picking on it brutally

koi angel marbleangel
the angels spawned! click here to see pics of them spawning.

click the pictures below to see the progression of angel fish fry form a week old to right before they were sold! many more pictures are contained on each page.

blue gourami1 Blue Gourami (Trichogaster trichopterus)

we used to have two of these guys, but one (the one we kept) was picked on so bad by the other that we gave the second one away. now the tank is peacefull and happy with just one, he doesnt seem to mind not having a companion of his own kind.

bronze cory4 Corydoras Catfish (Corydoras aeneus)

There are three bronze, and one albino. These are GREAT little fish. They clean up any food that slips by the top feeders, and their comical antics will easily keep you entertained.

froggie 2 Dwarf African Frogs (Hymenochirpus curtipes)

These little guys are the reason I have a fish tank, I got an Aquababies with a frog. a short while later the lil guy seemed depressed to say the least, and I realized how cruel this was so off I went and got him a bigger better home and new companions! after I got the aquarium I realized the situation with aquababies was much worse than I had first thought, just check out this Boycott Aquababies site, it will tell you all about them and their evils. The frogs are cute, but they do like to hide a lot, when they come out though, they are a very unique and fun addition to the aquarium.

Regal Rainbow 2 Regal Rainbowfish (Melanotaenia Trifasciata)

(commonly sold simply as Australian Rainbowfish here in North America) looks to me judging by the pictures that we have the variety known specifially as the Goyder River Rainbowfish

red malered female2 New Guinea or Salmon-Red Rainbowfish (Glossolepis Incisus )

oh arent they lucky; they get two pics on the main page! it's just because the male and female look so drastically different :-) the male is the red one (I apploagize for the crappy looking pic, he normally looks *much* better than that, and you can see much more red) and the female is the shiny gold one.

chequered1 Chequered/Ornate/Splendid Rainbowfish (Melanotaenia Splendida Inornata)

(? we're not entirely sure about this one, they were sold to us as Ornate Rainbows, which they clearly are not

turquoise 2 Turquoise Rainbowfish (Melanotaenia Lacustris)

again.. not a great pic, rainbows are very active fish, always on the move, tough to get a good pic of them.

Orange Splendid2 Orange Splendid Rainbowfish

I think this is actually some sort of hybrid variety of rainbowfish.... my guess is part Bosemani and ??? in any case, despite some people's feeling about 'unpure' fish such as this I think they are beautiful, and they are the most active spawners in the tank. (but we don't raise the fry so no worries about more bastard fish coming form our tank.. infact the various rainbows in the tank rarely spawn with thier own kind so you should be really worried if we ever decided to try and raise the fry :)

Parkinsoni Rainbow 1 Parkinsoni Rainbowfish (Melanotaenia Parkinsoni )

Madagascar Rainbow 2 Madagascar Rainbowfish or Red-Tailed Silverside (Bedotia Geayi)

Kribensis 2 Kribensis (Pelvicachromis pulcher)

the newest additions. so far they seem quite sweet and tame, not attacking any other fish. lets hope this good behavior continues :-) they're lovely fish.

Red Eye Tetra 5 Red Eye (Lamp Eye) Tetras (Moenkhausia sanctaefilomenae)

blackskirt2 Black Skirt (Black Widow) Tetras (Gymnocorymbus ternetzi)

Rummy Nose Tetra3 Rummy Nose Tetras (Hemigrammus bleheri)

Neon Tetra 2 Neon Tetras (Paracheirodon innesi)

I know I have too few of these and the rummy nose, but with the angels in there, they will get eaten if we add any more, so we're just waiting for these to live out thier natural lives or get eaten by the angels.

Platy 3 Platies (Xiphophorus maculatus )

they're pretty, and (i know this may sound horrid) they breed like mad providing healthy fish food for the carniverous fish. though some do survive every once in a while

Betta 1 Betta Splendens

clown pleco 1 Clown Pleco (Peckoltia vittatus)

kind of a chicken to tell you the truth, he spends most of his day hiding under a piece of driftwood, coming out mainly after the lights are turned out. still he's a whole lot better looking than the bristlenose ;-)

bristlenose1 Bristlenose Catfish (Ancistrus dolichopterus)

probably about the ugliest fish in the tank, maybe he'll be better looking when he starts to grow his distinctive bristles and such on his nose. but he does do a good job of keeping the tank (especially the wood, rocks and glass) algae free!

otto3 Otocinclus

These are my other algae eaters, they go around munching on the algae that gathers on the glass and tank decorations and plants. they're good little fish, sticking mainly to cleaning off the plants and sometimes the driftwood rather than the glass or rocks.

shrimp 4 Amano Shrimp (Caridina japonica)

These are algae eaters, they go around munching on the algae that gathers on tank decorations and plants. they're good scavengers as well.

flounder1 Freshwater Flounder

Strange looking thing isn't he? *sigh* tagically, he was accidentaly crushed by a rock recently and has died :-( I have left the pic up though because i am still simply amazed at the detail... click the pic to see the amaingly high rez pic thanks to out Coolpix digital camera.

Plants:

The plants in the tank are, Hygrophila polysperma 'Rosanervig' the ever popular Amazon Sword (Echinodorus bleheri), Rotala indica, Baby's Tears, Java Fern (Microsorum pteropus), Hydrocotyle leucocephala, Anubias Bartei, Java Moss (Vesicularia dubyana), Ambulia (Limnophila aquatica), Lilaeopsis brasiliensis, Dwarf Lily (Nymphaea lotus ("zenkeri") ?), Cryptocoryne walkeri (lutea), Cryptocoryne beckettii, Cabomba caroliniana . also a couple other unidentified plants...

10 Gallon Betta Tank
occupants:

Betta fish 1 Betta Splendins
aint he a cutie? he's red wiht a white face, and clear/white fins with blue highlights.

shrimp 2 Amano Shrimp (Caridina japonica)

These are algae eaters, they go around munching on the algae that gathers on tank decorations and plants. they're good scavengers as well.
